I once thought writing my dissertation would be my greatest life contribution. Hold on. I am not discounting an accomplishment, I am looking back and reflecting on my mindset from then to now. Hang with me while I share my nerd and my heart.

I remember having all the feels of researching, reading, learning, writing, conducting focus groups, sharing findings and offering recommendations to a larger audience. It was so exciting and intimidating all at the same time. Looking back, all I wanted to do was be a contributor, give new perspective and be an innovator in my field. What I didn’t know was that I would be on a path to make a bigger impact, helping people win over and over again in their daily life through blogs, coaching, workshops and communities. The sheer impact of watching my clients win is truly their best work and mine too!

Circa 2018 College of Education Doctoral Graduation. My husband Nick, Izzy, and Max. Izzy isn’t wearing shoes. I think a grandparent was holding them, but we embraced it and I graduated amongst all the chaos!

When was the last time you looked back and realized how far you’ve come? Our cars have a rearview mirror for a reason. A reminder of how far you’ve come and the roads you’ve traveled. First, give yourself a round of applause then celebrate everything you have accomplished!

Now let’s sit in the driver’s seat and look forward. The road is wide open, the windshield you are looking through is big, and where you turn and go next is up to you. We’ve taken the same roads over and over, but today is a new road, a road less traveled. What if the road less traveled becomes your best work yet?

No matter if you are applying for the next job, contemplating changing careers, going back to school, entering into a new relationship, edging on taking a risk, or wavering on making any decisions, you will not know what to do next until you take the next step. You can’t create your best work yet without taking a step forward. Little or big, it’s still a step.

Looking back, my dissertation was a vehicle in my life. It was not the destination. I am so excited to share a vehicle, a full toolkit, and a community to help give you life balance and bring joy in the workplace in March.
