The holiday season is magical but can also be overwhelming. Between to-do lists, packed schedules, and the pressure to make everything perfect, it’s easy to lose focus. That’s why this year, let’s use our superpowers as a guide to navigate the season with joy and purpose. It’s never too late to just be you.
What Are Your Superpowers?
Your superpowers are the unique strengths and qualities that make you shine and bring you joy. Maybe it’s your creativity, ability to connect with others, or knack for organizing chaos. These gifts bring energy and joy when used intentionally—and they’re the key to a meaningful holiday season.
For me, my superpower is staying calm in the chaos. I wasn’t always this way; I had to learn it. I still remember a particularly hectic holiday when everything seemed to go wrong. We had a water leak right after dinner and it was in our basement, a house full of family and I could feel the stress building like a storm. My instinct was to react—to snap at everyone and let the frustration spill out.
But instead, I took a deep breath and leaned in. I decided to listen instead of reacting to my own worries. We turned off the water, cleaned up the mess and washed dishes by hand in the laundry room sink. It was a fun time of togetherness that we now look back on and laugh. Choosing to respond instead of react became a turning point for me, and it’s a lesson I carry into every holiday season.
Here are some fun things our elf, Trixie, has been up to along with her fun elf mate, Sonnie. We’ve also had some fun with salt dough ornaments as a new holiday activity. Plus a friendly reminder of your own magic this holiday season.
How to Use Your Superpowers This Season
1. Focus on What Matters Most
Think about what truly lights you up during the holidays. Is it baking with your kids, hosting gatherings, or having quiet family moments? I love baking and creating memories myself so we tried salt dough ornaments this year and Carolina loved it! Here is a fun salt dough recipe with three ingredients if you want to try! Prioritize these activities, and let go of things that drain you. Protecting your time and energy is a superpower. If it makes you happy, do it. Just keep it simple.
2. Let Your Strengths Lead
Align your holiday plans with your superpowers:
- If you’re creative, channel it into thoughtful gifts or festive decorations.
- If you’re a natural planner, streamline holiday tasks to reduce stress.
- If you’re a connector, create moments to bring loved ones together.
By focusing on what you’re naturally good at, the season feels less like a chore and more like a celebration.
3. Give Yourself Grace
Not everything will go as planned—and that’s okay. The holidays are about love and connection, not perfection. Grace is also important when you wake up realizing you forgot to move the elf. If you get worried or jump up in panic, it just means you care. True love is being a maker of magic and giving all the credit to mythical creatures. You are amazing! Remember that joy often comes from the simplest moments.
