Being a mom is a wonderful, rewarding journey filled with countless joys and challenges. From juggling schedules and managing all the turns, to maintaining a clean household and ensuring everyone’s well-being, it’s a whirlwind of responsibilities. But what if, amidst the chaos, we adopted a new mindset? A playful and carefree attitude that whispers, “I don’t care.” Yes, you read that right!  With school getting out and summer vacation in full swing, this mindset has never been more important!

This is what a week looks like at my house. I’ll spare you from the dishes in the sink. We’ve had softball and baseball games, piano lessons, and all the things coming home from school at the end of the year. “I don’t care.” I am off to get ice cream with my kiddos to celebrate the last day of school!

This unconventional theme can help us find balance, let go of perfection, and rediscover the fun in mom life when caring for those we love. So, grab your coffee (or that secret stash of chocolate- Mine is my closet. 🙂) and let’s explore this playful approach together!

  1. Embracing Imperfections: As moms, we often put immense pressure on ourselves to be perfect. We strive for flawlessly clean houses, perfect meals, and well-behaved children. But guess what? Perfection is overrated! Embracing the “I don’t care” mindset allows us to let go of unrealistic expectations and celebrate the beauty of imperfections. So what if there’s a little mess or your dinner isn’t Pinterest-worthy? Let’s embrace the chaos, laugh it off, and cherish the memories instead.
  1. Embracing Spontaneity: Remember the days when spontaneity was second nature? Well, it’s time to bring that spirit back into our mom lives! Instead of meticulously planning every minute, let’s be open to unexpected adventures and surprises. Whether it’s an impromptu family picnic, a dance party in the living room, or a spontaneous trip to the park, these unplanned moments become the ones our children will treasure forever. Ps. I am planning for the spontaneous by blocking a few dates in my calendar this summer to just let us go with the flow!
  1. Embracing Self-Care: As moms, we often prioritize everyone else’s needs above our own. But it’s essential to remember that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s necessary! Embrace the “I don’t care” mindset by making time for yourself without guilt. Take that bubble bath (I take one at least once a week!), read that book, indulge in a hobby, or enjoy a night out with friends. When we prioritize our well-being, we become happier and more fulfilled, ultimately benefiting our families too!
  1. Embracing Support: No mom is an island, and it’s time we accept and ask for help when needed. The “I don’t care” approach means we don’t have to do it all alone. Reach out to your support network—spouse, family, friends, fellow moms—and lean on each other. Share laughs, advice, and even the occasional venting session. Building a community that embraces the playful side of mom life creates a support system that lightens the load and brings endless joy.

So, let’s leave perfectionism at the door and embrace the fun, the carefree side of mom life. Let’s stick together this summer in the Designing a Life You Can Stick To Community! Remember, it’s the laughter, love, and cherished memories that truly matter. So, here’s to moms who boldly declare, “I don’t care” this summer!

Now, go out there, embrace the chaos, and find joy in the playful moments of mom life!

Love & Hugs Always,

Dr. B.
