Ready or not, it’s back to school time! As a mom, I still get all the feelings of change; new routine, crazy schedules, first day jitters, feelings from my kiddos, and getting back into making lunches again.

Here’s my son, Max! New shoes for school. He begged me for white shoes and I’m so thankful, I found them for less than $5! That’s a huge back to school win!

We tend to just do things and surprise ourselves in the moment with “I didn’t know I would feel this way” feelings. I know I have gotten caught up in the morning chaos and it’s typically because I didn’t prepare, think about what I expected, or reflect on how I felt.

I’m sharing our family’s back to school rituals to help you win, as we all adjust to a new normal.

1. Prep the night before to ensure a great morning! Especially with clothes! Encourage your child to set out their perfect first day outfit and help them pick options for the week.

2. Know your child’s triggers. Talk a day in advance to manage expectations and what each person’s role is in the morning. This will help prevent morning setbacks or meltdowns.

3. Our morning mantra! This is what our kids say every morning as they leave for the day! Ask- “Who makes it a great day?” They respond with- “Me!”

4. The most important one is to give yourself extra time and grace all the way through.

Wishing you a great school year! You got this!
