We all know the holiday countdown is on! It’s the calm before the storm of so many amazing things ahead. While it can be a very exciting time, it can also be very overwhelming. If you are overwhelmed in your everyday life or anticipating this feeling to creep up on you during the holidays, it’s the perfect time to make your holiday game plan. Here’s a few things you can do!
- Make a List! This isn’t just any list. This is the list of things you and your family enjoy during the holidays. Think about it as a compilation of your favorite traditions. Take this opportunity to evaluate what you love doing and maybe something new you want to try. Will you spend time decorating, volunteering, seeing lights, attending religious events, or traveling?
- Set Expectations– Now that you have your list, it’s time to discuss it as a family. This helps create family buy-in and will manage expectations. It’s a proactive way to manage all the little voices and excitement so your kids know what to expect. In my home, these conversations alleviate any worry about my kiddos missing out on their favorite things! Plus it will create positive excitement for what is coming rather than worrying about the unknown.
- Acknowledge Overwhelm– Is there a person, place or event that you know is your holiday overwhelm trigger? Acknowledge who or what it is. Share it with a partner or a family member to help navigate if you must engage or say “no”. It’s up to you to create a holiday season you love!
- Schedule Self-Care– We give more time than we actually have during the holiday season. Choose a self-care activity and schedule it in your calendar now! You won’t regret a salon day, massage, or just time to yourself during the holidays.
If you are ready to have your best holiday season yet, I welcome you to join us for an upcoming workshop! RegisterHere! Eliminate the Overwhelm! In this workshop we will talk about the triggers of overwhelm, help you identify your own personal triggers, help you create tools to alleviate the overwhelm and equip you to feel your best as you go into the holiday season.
Let’s make it the best holiday season yet!
