As the holiday season approaches, many of us anticipate the joy that comes along with the holidays, but I found that many of us are falling short of feeling the magic. A few weeks ago, I stopped myself to take a moment in the midst of the hustle and bustle to reset and recharge. I was overwhelmed by everything I was running around doing, instead of enjoying the holiday things “I get to do.” I’ve heard this from many of you, sharing that you don’t feel the magic or you want to feel the magic but it’s just not coming to you. Whether it’s stress, overwhelm, loss, loneliness, or personal challenges, it’s common to feel disconnected from the magic. I see you. I hear you. There are solutions! I am here to share 5 things you can do to rediscover the magic of the season before it’s too late:
1. Simplify and Prioritize: Instead of trying to do it all, focus on what truly matters. I stopped doing bows on packages, I don’t make nearly as many sweets and I’m focusing on the things that matter most to our family. I also asked Nick and the kids what matters most to them so we can simplify and manage expectations to prioritize the things that mean the most.
2. Connect with Loved Ones: Reach out to friends and family, whether in person or virtually. Make your own list of loved ones that you wish to see or connect with. The feeling of getting off the phone or having a great visit can change everything!
3. Create Meaningful Traditions: This one is by far my favorite! We are staying home this year and playing games on Christmas! New traditions are happening and I can’t wait for spatulas, blindfolds, bowls, cups, balloons, marshmallows, and straws. There are 4 games with all of those supplies that we are going to have so much fun with! Create a holiday tradition you love!
4. Give Back: I just volunteered at my children’s school and did a community give back with United Way. It is such a great way to embrace the spirit of giving and feel the magic of the holiday season! Where can you give back this season? If you have already, reflect and think about the many lives you impacted.
5. Practice Self-Care: You have to take care of yourself, too, during the holidays. I have time planned for a bath and to get my nails done in between all the hustle, allowing me to relax and reflect. When I am at my best, my kids win every time. What can you do for 30-60 minutes to practice self-care?
I’ve learned that you have to make space for the things you want the most. I hope these 5 things help you create space to enjoy the holidays and feel the magic this holiday season. Remember, it’s never too late to infuse your days with the warmth and magic that makes the holidays truly special! Cheers to feeling good this holiday season!
Wishing you a Holiday season filled with joy and laughter!
